KEEPING INSURERS CODING COMPLIANT

The Division of Insurance (DOI) has issued a new form for providers to use to report instances of non-compliance with standardized coding and billing requirements. Under Chapter 305 of the Acts of 2008, at least 85% of claims must currently be compliant with correct coding standards; beginning July 1, 2012, 100% of claims must comply. Providers who notice inconsistencies with coding should first contact the insurer. If the issue is not satisfactorily resolved or if it part of a pattern of non-compliance, DOI should then be notified using the form.  GO HERE for more details.
